Cuttin' Heads

OK, I'm gonna try a little something new. Saturday nights will be Head Cuttin' nights in the fashion of the oldschool blues clubs. For those of you who don't know what head cuttin' is, it's simple. It's a musical duel - one on one - to see who's got the chops. Blues lore has it that if you made a deal at the crossroads with the devil and wanted out of the contract, the only way to accomplish that was to cut heads with the devil's best guitar player or harmonica player or whatever instrument you happened to play. If you beat the devil's golden child your contract was nullified. If you have seen the 1986 cult classic Crossroads starring Ralph Macchio, Joe Seneca and Jamie Gertz you may remember the head cutting scene with guitar virtuoso Steve Vai. Steve played the character Jack Butler who Macchio's character has to battle for the soul of Willie Dixon (Seneca). If you have not seen the movie I highly suggest watching it. It tends to be a little dramatic and overdone at times, but hey- it was 1986. And if you can get past the Karate Kid doing a not so good job of acting it's a great movie. Check out the head cuttin' scene at right. It's worth the watch just to see Steve Vai's dramatic defeat at the end. So watch the clip and then tune in Saturdays cuz YOU are gonna decide whose head gets cut and who's soul is saved.

A Sad Day

It is truly a sad day. A part of my childhood - as well as many others' - passed away today. Ronnie James Dio lost his battle with cancer this morning at 7:45 a.m. Known for his work with the bands Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio and Heaven & Hell he was well respected for his powerful vocals and poetic lyrics. Though often criticized by the far right he was a powerful representative for a generation who felt no one understood them and his lyrics often spoke of the constant struggle in the world between good and evil.

Dio was widely credited with starting the devil horns with the fingers that is a staple at every single heavy metal show to this day. Though small in stature he was a giant among the heavy metal faithful and he will be greatly missed.

Rest in peace, Ronnie. The metal world will miss you.

A New Feature on Psymon's Music Page

We have started a new feature today (as you probably already noticed) called Psymon's Hard Rock Babe of the Day. There are so many hotties in the hard rock world that we decided to feature a different one every day. The first Hard Rock Hottie is Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. Not only is Christina hotter than hell, she has a great voice AND she likes Guinness. God Bless a Guinness Girl! Hopefully you all can come out and see Christina when Lacuna Coil comes to town with Flyleaf on June 4th. Oh - wait! Did somebody say Flyleaf? I sense another hottie coming up on tomorrow's music page. Stay tuned for details and pics!

Hi! My name is Psymon and I'll be your host for this carnival freakshow. I'm actually the alter-ego of Todd. I'm everything that he would be if he had nothing to lose and no fear. I'm uncivilized, unsavory tattooed white trash with a side of old fashioned manners and common sense.

This is where you will find all things important and relevant in the music world. Will this blog be extremely biased and subjective? Yes! But that's my prerogative since it's MY blog and not yours.

We will cover all types of different music, but not all music in that genre. In other words, I like lots of different kinds of music but I despise lots of different music within those genres.

And we might as well get this out of the way right now - there will never be anything on this blog related to or regarding such drivel as American Idol. Nor will I acknowledge ANY idiot on this page who is famous for winning a karaoke contest. And yes, that does include that she-tool Carrie Underwood. And people like Chris Daughtry will never be mentioned on this page in anything other than a mocking manner. But we will be covering everything from Five Finger Death Punch to Yonder Mountain String Band and everything in between. If you don't like it, make your own music blog entitled "Crappy Music You Shouldn't Be Listening To".
